Japan and Maldives Pledge to Elevate Defence and Maritime Security Cooperation

Japan and the Maldives have committed to elevating their defence relationship, focusing on enhanced security cooperation and strategic bilateral ties. The announcement follows a high-level meeting between Japan’s State Minister of Defence, Masahisa Miyazaki, and the Maldives’ Ambassador to Japan, Ahmed Mahloof. During the discussions, Minister Miyazaki expressed gratitude for the Maldives' role in facilitating the standby deployment of Japanese military aircraft for emergency situations.
