Japan Donates Advanced Facial Recognition System to Bolster Maldives Border Security

The Japanese government has officially handed over a state-of-the-art facial recognition system to the Maldives, aiming to modernize the nation's border control and security infrastructure. Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko presented the equipment to the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour, and Technology, Ali Ihusaan. The handover marks a significant step in upgrading the technical capabilities of the Maldives Immigration Department, ensuring more secure and efficient entry points into the country. According to the Immigration Department, the implementation of this advanced system is expected to expedite identity verification for travelers, reducing processing times at ports of entry while significantly strengthening the ability to detect and prevent unauthorized entry. The technology will allow for more accurate and seamless biometric scanning, streamlining the arrival process for tourists and residents alike. The handover ceremony was attended by Minister Ihusaan, Ambassador Rumiko, and Controller General of Immigration Ahmed Faseeh, alongside other senior immigration officials. The collaboration highlights the strategic importance of technological integration in managing the high volume of international traffic arriving in the archipelago. In a statement following the event, the Maldivian government expressed its gratitude to Japan for the donation and its unwavering support.
