JSC Announces Supreme Court Recruitment Despite High Court Vacancy
Politics ·
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced a recruitment drive for a Supreme Court judge position that will become vacant next month, despite a High Court judge position remaining unfilled for two months. JSC Chairman Husne Mubarak confirmed that no announcement has been made for the High Court vacancy. High Court Judge Ibrahim Mahir retired on September 4, leaving the court with only 10 judges, though the law requires a total of 11. The High Court handles significantly more cases than the Supreme Court. The JSC stated that applications for the Supreme Court position, which will open after the retirement of Judge Ali Rashid, must be submitted before 10:00 AM next Friday. The basic salary for a Supreme Court judge is MVR 59,700 per month, plus a living allowance of MVR 25,000 and a risk allowance of MVR 3,300 per month.
