JSC Appoints New Chief Judge of High Court and Family Court Chief Magistrate

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has officially appointed new leadership for two of the Maldives' key judicial bodies, naming a new Chief Judge for the High Court and a Chief Magistrate for the Family Court. High Court Judge Abdulla Jameel Moosa has been elevated to the position of Chief Judge of the High Court. Judge Moosa, who holds a Bachelor of Sharia and Law with Honours from Kulliyyathul Dhirasaathul Islamiyya, has been serving as a High Court Judge since August of last year. Prior to this permanent appointment, he had been overseeing the High Court in an acting capacity since November 19. With a judicial career spanning over 16 years, Judge Moosa brings extensive experience to the role. His previous appointments include tenures as a judge of the High Court, a judge at the Civil Court, and a Magistrate at the Dhanbidhoo Magistrate Court in Laamu Atoll. Simultaneously, the JSC has appointed Abdulla Nasheed as the Chief Magistrate of the Family Court. Magistrate Nasheed is highly qualified, holding a Master of Law from the Maldives Islamic University and a Bachelor of Sharia and Law from Kulliyyathul Dhirasaathul Islamiyya. Magistrate Nasheed possesses over 21 years of experience within the judicial sector. His diverse career includes serving as a magistrate and Chief Magistrate at the Manadhoo Magistrate Court in Moonu Atoll, as well as holding roles as a Chief Magistrate within the judicial district and a magistrate of the Criminal Court. He was first appointed as a Family Court Magistrate on March 24, 2016. These appointments mark a significant step in the administration of the Maldivian judiciary, placing seasoned legal professionals at the helm of the nation's appellate and family justice systems.
