Judge Niyaz Retires After 23 Years of Service in the High Court

Judge Mohamed Niyaz has retired from the High Court of the Maldives after 23 years of dedicated service. Known for being one of the longest-serving judges in the High Court, Niyaz's retirement was marked with formal ceremonies and recognition for his contributions. He began his judicial career in 2002 and served in various capacities, including in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). Niyaz was appointed as a judge in the High Court in 2018 and continued to serve until his retirement. His departure was attributed to health reasons. Throughout his career, Niyaz was respected for his integrity and commitment to the judicial system. He also held roles in the Magistrates’ Courts of Vaikaradhoo and Kuda Huvadhoo. Educated at the Islamic University of Malaysia, Niyaz also gained experience in legal systems in England and America. His retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in the Maldivian judiciary.
