Justice Party Spokesperson Deletes Post Questioning Rasmalé Handover to UAE Firm
Politics ·
Justice Party spokesperson Hussain Ansar has deleted a post on X, originally made on September 28 last year, in which he called for clarity on the agreement to hand over the Rasmalé development project to Equal Hills of the United Arab Emirates. The project is intended to provide housing for Maldivians.
In the deleted post, Ansar stated that information needed to be clarified concerning the Rasmalé project, residential visas, and the township program. He added that after obtaining accurate information from the government, any concerns would be presented to relevant institutions for solutions.
The reason for the deletion remains unknown, and Ansar did not respond to multiple attempts for comment.
Atoll Today learned that meetings were held with Attorney General Ahmed Ushaam, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, and Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Mutholib to clarify details regarding Rasmalé. However, no further updates have been received from Rasmalé Dealer.
A scheduled advisory council meeting of the Justice Party on October 26 last year was canceled due to a lack of quorum.
The government states that Rasmalé is being handed over on a 99-year lease. Since current laws do not permit this, the government is working to enact new legislation to facilitate the project, with a permanent agreement expected to be signed.
Notably, the government agreed to hand over Rasmalé without charging any execution fee or land rent. The only revenue the government will receive is 10 percent from the sale of commercial properties built in Rasmalé and four percent from the sale of apartments.
