Kaashidhoo Allocates One Hectare of Land for Five Million Tree Programme
Politics ·
Kaashidhoo island council in Kaafu Atoll has decided to allocate one hectare of land to carry out the government's Five Million Tree planting programme, which is among the government's policies.
The allocation was announced today in a public notice signed by Kaashidhoo Council President Sobah Mohamed.
At the 20th general meeting of the Kaashidhoo council, discussions were held regarding a letter sent to the council by the Fisheries Ministry. That was a letter proposing that land be found in Kaashidhoo to carry out the government's Five Million Tree programme.
After discussing the matter, the council decided today to release one hectare of land from the area included in the land use plan for creating "agroforestry" fields on the island, since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has designated Kaashidhoo as one of the islands on which the Five Million Tree programme will be carried out.
The Five Million Tree planting programme is one of the largest projects being carried out by the government to revitalise the beauty of the Maldives and protect the environment.
President Muizzu officially launched the programme in June 2024, to coincide with World Environment Day.
Under the Five Million Tree programme, more than one million trees have so far been planted across various islands.
