Kamadhoo School Facility to Open During Second Academic Term Next Year

World ·
The construction of the new Kamadhoo School building in Baa Atoll is scheduled for completion during the second term of the current academic year, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu announced on Tuesday. Speaking during a session of the Maldivian Parliament (the Majlis), Minister Shafeeu provided the timeline in response to inquiries from Mauroof Zakir, the Member of Parliament for Kendhoo. The Minister confirmed that the planning phase is now complete, with physical construction expected to begin early in the second term and conclude before the term ends. The project, which was initially conceived under the previous administration, faced significant delays due to a lack of budgetary allocation prior to the presidential transition. Minister Shafeeu noted that when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took office in 2023, the necessary funding had not been secured by the parliament of that time, leaving the initiative in limbo. To resolve these fiscal challenges, the current administration integrated the project into a broader 2024 structural plan for the education sector. This revised approach has significantly expanded the scope of the facility. While the original blueprint called for only two classrooms and a single office, the updated plan will deliver a much larger complex featuring six classrooms and a dedicated administrative building. Addressing concerns regarding the project's pace, the Minister emphasized that technical experts have already finalized all architectural designs and structural blueprints. He dismissed claims that work had stalled, asserting that these critical preparatory phases are an essential part of the construction process. The expansion reflects a commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the outer atolls, ensuring that students in Kamadhoo have access to modern facilities that can accommodate growing enrollment and administrative needs.
