Kulhudhuffushi City Commissions New 1.2-Megawatt Generator to Boost Electricity Supply
Local News ·
Kulhudhuffushi City has taken a significant step towards enhancing its electricity infrastructure with the commissioning and successful operation of a new 1.2-megawatt generator set. The State Electricity Company Limited (STELCO) confirmed that the new generator will improve the quality and reliability of electricity services for residents. STELCO, which officially began providing electricity services in Kulhudhuffushi on October 15, stated that the generator will add completeness to the power supply and help ensure uninterrupted service. The move is part of a broader government initiative to restructure utility services in the Maldives, following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's decision to dissolve the Fenaka Corporation and consolidate its operations under STELCO. This decision, announced on September 7, 2026, aims to reduce state expenses, strengthen management, minimize waste, and provide sustainable utility services to atoll communities.
