Kulhudhuffushi City Road Project Enters Third Phase With $6.49 Million Investment

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has commenced essential survey works to launch the third phase of road infrastructure development in Kulhudhuffushi City. This latest initiative follows an agreement signed on July 31, 2025, and was officially inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a visit to the city. The project aims to modernize the city's transit network by paving 3.4 kilometers of road and designing all remaining undeveloped roads on the island. Beyond paving, the scope includes the construction of sidewalks and the installation of comprehensive water drainage systems, road markings, and directional signboards to improve safety and traffic flow. Operating as a Public Service Investment (PSI), the project represents a government investment of USD 6.49 million. RDC is tasked with completing the entire scope of work within a 730-day timeframe. This phase builds upon two previous successful stages of development led by RDC. The first phase saw the paving of 18 roads, while the second phase, completed in 2022, modernized an additional 24 roads, steadily transforming the city's urban landscape. Kulhudhuffushi City serves as a critical hub for the northern region of the Maldives. As one of the most populated islands in the north, it hosts essential services including a regional hospital, an airport, and various government offices, making it a primary destination for residents across the surrounding atolls. The upgraded road network is expected to facilitate easier access to these vital services and support the city's growing role as a regional administrative and economic center.
