Lawmaker Ali Hussain Warns Against Selling Rasmale Land to Foreigners, Calls It Treason

Politics ·
Lawyer and former People's Majlis member for Kandhu constituency Ali Hussain has strongly opposed the sale of land under the Rasmale project to foreign parties, declaring that "not even a grain of sand" of the Maldives can be given to Zionists or people of other religions. Speaking at an emergency event titled 'Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnath', Ali Hussain described the Maldives as "land defended on behalf of the national martyrs" and warned that allocating land to outsiders while 58,000 families in Malé await housing amounts to "treason to the nation." He urged President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu not to proceed with such actions, which he said contradict Islamic principles, and called on the President's supporters to prevent any such moves. The Rasmale project, a major land reclamation and development initiative near Malé, has become a flashpoint in the country's housing debate.
