Arrangements have been finalized to receive complaints related to the election to elect members to the Board of the Local Government Authority (LGA). Voting is scheduled for tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Complaints will be submitted via an online form, and the LGA stated that responses will be provided via email.
Under the Local Government Act, three members must be elected to the LGA Board: one from among city councilors, one from among island councilors, and one from among chairpersons of Women's Development Committees (WDCs). Since only Malé City Mayor Mohamed Athif submitted his name from the city councilors, that position has already been filled.
Tomorrow's election will determine the members to be chosen from among island councilors and WDC chairpersons. A total of 807 individuals have voting rights: 625 councilors and 182 chairpersons from 177 island councils and 5 city council WDC members.
Nineteen ballot boxes will be placed at government service centers and at the Hulhudhoo Social Center. LGA employees and service center staff will serve as officials. Counting will begin 30 minutes after the polls close, and interim results are expected to be announced tomorrow night.
