MACL Reclaims 115 Hectares of Land from Giraavaru Falhu, Marking 68.8% Completion

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that under the Giraavaru Falhu reclamation project, 115 hectares of land have been reclaimed so far, representing 68.8 percent of the total work. The project aims to reclaim a total of 167.15 hectares of land from Giraavaru Falhu, where plots were distributed to residents of Malé. The reclamation is being carried out using the 'Queen of the Netherlands,' currently the largest dredger in the world. Despite challenges due to some deep areas of Giraavaru Falhu, MACL reports that the project is progressing with great momentum. MACL began the reclamation work in February and has contracted the work to Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMCC), with the dredging operations being conducted by Boskalis Company. The project was originally promised for plot distribution under the previous government, but as reclamation was not proceeding adequately, plots were distributed on jetties in the sea without a proper land use plan. Under the current government, an additional 113 hectares are being reclaimed, and 4,072 plots are being sold from Giraavaru Falhu through the Housing Project, with the aim of handing over these plots to homeowners.
