Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced plans to take legal action against individuals or businesses operating without authorization at Velana International Airport (VIA). This includes those offering foreign exchange services at inflated rates. In a statement issued on Tuesday, MACL emphasized that permission to conduct business or provide services at VIA is granted only under specific rules and formal agreements. Only entities with valid licenses and signed agreements with MACL are authorized to operate services such as SIM card sales and currency exchange at the airport. MACL also warned that unauthorized businesses or service providers will face action under applicable laws and regulations, in coordination with relevant security agencies. The company stated it will not be held responsible for any losses incurred by such unauthorized operations. This move is part of MACL's efforts to ensure the safety of tourists and maintain service quality at VIA.
