Major Fire Breaks Out at Funaadu Port, Spreads to Nearby Home

A major fire broke out at a petrol shed in the port area of Funaadu in Shaviyani Atoll early Sunday morning. The blaze spread to a nearby house, causing extensive damage to the property. Police confirmed that a report of the fire was received at around 8:15 am on Sunday. Thick black smoke from the fire has heavily blanketed the island, forcing the local school to suspend classes for the day. Responding teams from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the police, along with local residents, are working to extinguish the flames. While the fire in the adjacent house has been brought under control, significant damage has been reported. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
