Major Portion of MIFCO Harbor's First Phase Completed
Local News ·
A major portion of the first phase of the MIFCO harbor development in Hulhudhoo, Addu Atoll, has been completed. The harbor, which is being developed for the Addu Fisheries Complex, is a 68.8 million rufiyaa project awarded to MTCC in 2019. The work includes dredging 471,380 cubic meters, reclaiming 1,788 cubic meters of land, and constructing a 97-meter revetment. Once completed, the harbor will be used not only for exporting frozen fish from the Maldives but also for transferring fish to other MIFCO sites. Technical In-charge of the Addu Fisheries Complex, Ahmed Farooq, said the harbor is being upgraded because the current condition makes it difficult for large vessels to dock and hinders fish processing. The Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, recently visited to inspect the progress.
