Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, has reaffirmed the deep-rooted bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Bangladesh, describing it as a partnership built on strong people-to-people ties.
The declarations came during an official meeting with Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam in Malé. Dr. Rahman visited the Maldives as a special guest to participate in the celebrations marking the country's 61st Independence Day.
During the high-level talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers explored strategies to expand cooperation beyond current diplomatic channels. Key areas identified for future growth include healthcare, education, trade, investment, and tourism. The ministers also discussed enhancing labor exchange and human resource development to benefit the workforces of both nations.
Beyond economic and social cooperation, the leaders exchanged views on strengthening collaboration at regional and international levels, pledging to maintain a united front on issues of mutual interest.
As a gesture of friendship and partnership, Dr. Rahman announced a donation of 300 kilograms of Khirsapat mangoes to the Maldivian government. In a significant move to support local environmental efforts, the Bangladeshi government also pledged 20,000 tree saplings to assist the Maldives' ambitious 'Five Million Trees Programme.'
