Maldives and Belarus Sign Visa Exemption Deal to Boost Bilateral Ties

The Maldives and Belarus have entered into a formal agreement to exempt each other's nationals from visa requirements, a strategic move designed to enhance diplomatic relations and foster closer people-to-people connections between the two nations. The agreement was signed in New York during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The deal was formalized by Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov. Under the terms of the new arrangement, citizens of both countries can now enter without a visa for a single stay of up to 30 days. To further encourage travel and exchange, the agreement also permits multiple-entry visits for a cumulative period of up to 90 days within a single calendar year. Following the ceremony, Minister Iruthisham expressed gratitude to Belarus for its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Maldives. She emphasized that removing these travel barriers would create significant new opportunities for engagement, potentially boosting tourism and professional exchanges between the two regions. This development marks a step forward in diversifying the Maldives' international partnerships and expanding its global accessibility. By simplifying travel procedures, both governments aim to encourage a steady flow of visitors and officials, laying the groundwork for future economic and cultural collaborations.
