Maldives and Malaysia Sign Defense and Islamic Affairs Pacts to Strengthen Ties

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have held official talks in the Maldives to deepen bilateral cooperation and explore new strategic partnerships. The discussions took place during Prime Minister Anwar’s state visit, conducted at the invitation of President Muizzu. The two leaders focused on reinforcing the diplomatic relationship between the two nations, which spans 58 years. The talks centered on leveraging existing ties to create new avenues for collaboration, both within their borders and on the international stage. A primary outcome of the visit was the signing of two significant memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These agreements target critical sectors of national interest: defense cooperation and Islamic affairs.
