President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, focusing on critical sectors including tourism, healthcare, education, and economic development. During a courtesy call held as part of the President's state visit to Sri Lanka, the two leaders discussed strengthening diplomatic ties and exploring new partnerships. A key area of focus included vocational training and broader socio-economic initiatives aimed at mutual growth for both island nations. President Muizzu used the occasion to commend the Sri Lankan government for its resilience and recovery efforts following the socio-economic disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah last year. The exchange underscored a spirit of regional solidarity and support in the face of environmental and economic challenges. Both leaders further highlighted the strategic importance of their respective diaspora communities. They noted that Sri Lankans residing in the Maldives and Maldivians living in Sri Lanka continue to play a vital role in the national development of both countries, serving as cultural and economic bridges. President Muizzu is currently visiting Sri Lanka from May 3 to 6 at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The President is accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed as the two nations seek to modernize their historical partnership to meet contemporary challenges.
