Maldives and Sri Lanka Sign Seven Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

The Maldives and Sri Lanka have signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation across several critical sectors, marking a significant step in deepening the relationship between the two Indian Ocean neighbors.
The agreements were formalized during an official state visit by President Mohamed Muizzu to Sri Lanka from November 3 to 6. The visit, conducted at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, culminated in a special ceremony where the documents were exchanged in the presence of both heads of state.
The comprehensive set of agreements targets a diverse range of strategic areas, including tourism, education, youth development, and defense cooperation. By focusing on these pillars, both nations aim to leverage their geographical proximity and shared interests to foster economic and social growth.
Following the signing ceremony, President Muizzu and President Dissanayake issued a joint statement reaffirming the strong and evolving nature of their bilateral relationship.
