Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has emphasized the importance of international dialogue in addressing contemporary global challenges following the first International Forum on Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan. Speaking in an interview with an Uzbek media outlet, Dr Shaheem noted that the forum served as a critical platform for scholars and intellectuals to exchange ideas and revive the legacy of Islamic civilisation. He praised Uzbekistan for its rich history of scholarship and intellectual achievement, citing the country as a positive example for the wider Islamic world in its efforts to preserve historical heritage. Dr Shaheem highlighted the common bonds between the Maldives and Uzbekistan, noting that both nations are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and share a deep spiritual connection within the Islamic Ummah. Beyond religious and intellectual cooperation, the Minister explored opportunities for bilateral growth in the tourism sector. He acknowledged the increasing number of Uzbek tourists and youth visiting the Maldives, stating that welcoming international visitors remains a point of great pride for Maldivians. Recognizing Uzbekistan's own natural beauty and historical wealth, Dr Shaheem expressed confidence that the Maldives could provide valuable support and expertise to help further develop Uzbekistan's burgeoning tourism industry. The visit underscores a growing diplomatic effort to bridge the gap between distant Islamic nations through shared values of wisdom, scholarship, and economic cooperation, leveraging the Maldives' global reputation in hospitality to foster new partnerships in Central Asia.
