The Maldives National Anti-Corruption Academy (MNACA) is set to commence its inaugural training programs by the end of January 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening the nation's fight against corruption. The announcement was made by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Adam Shamil during the official ceremony commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day. Shamil revealed that the government has lost USD 103.8 million in assets and funds over the past 17 years due to corruption. He emphasised the urgent need for dedicated legislation to establish a robust asset recovery framework and confirmed that a draft law has been submitted to the Attorney General's Office. The MNACA, inaugurated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on December 7, 2023, aims to provide education, training, and research to enhance anti-corruption efforts. The academy will initially offer Level 4 certificate and diploma programs in collaboration with Malaysian and Hong Kong Anti-Corruption Academy, with plans to expand to Master’s degree level in the future.
