Maldives Appoints Dr Ibrahim Zuhuree as Non-Resident Ambassador to Palestine

Dr Ibrahim Zuhuree has officially assumed his role as the non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Maldives to the State of Palestine. The appointment was formalized during a virtual ceremony where Dr Zuhuree presented his Letters of Credence to Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr Aghabekian Varsen. Following the ceremony, Ambassador Zuhuree delivered formal greetings and well-wishes from President Mohamed Muizzu and the Maldivian people to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. During their discussions, the Ambassador emphasized the Maldives' commitment to deepening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations, pledging to actively develop bilateral relations throughout his tenure. Central to the meeting was a reaffirmation of the Maldives' unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. Ambassador Zuhuree reiterated the country's stance on the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring the realization of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. In response, Foreign Minister Dr Varsen congratulated Dr Zuhuree on his appointment and expressed hopes for a successful diplomatic term. Due to the non-resident nature of the appointment, Ambassador Zuhuree will maintain his official residence in Malé while managing diplomatic affairs for the State of Palestine. The virtual ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials from the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Additional Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha, Senior Under-Secretary Fathimath Naeema, Assistant Director Fathimath Reena, and Deputy Desk Officer Fathmath Layana Ihusan.
