Maldives Appoints First Non-Resident Ambassador to Strengthen Ties with Serbia

The Maldives has formally established its diplomatic presence in Serbia as newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador Aminath Shabeena presented her Letters of Credence to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The official ceremony took place on September 14 at the Palace Serbia in Belgrade. During the meeting following the ceremony, Ambassador Shabeena delivered warm greetings and good wishes from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and the Maldivian government. As the first person to hold this non-resident diplomatic post, Shabeena emphasized the growing friendship and cooperation between the two nations and pledged her commitment to elevating bilateral relations. Beyond the presidential ceremony, the Ambassador engaged in high-level diplomatic discussions to identify concrete areas for collaboration. She attended a dinner hosted by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić in honor of newly accredited ambassadors and held a targeted meeting with Jelena Marković Krstić, the Head of Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Department. These diplomatic exchanges focused on expanding cooperation in sectors of mutual interest, specifically targeting growth in education, tourism, and trade. By establishing this diplomatic link, the Maldives aims to diversify its international partnerships and create new economic opportunities through Serbian engagement. Ambassador Shabeena was supported during the mission by Saifulla Waleed, the Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Maldives in Berlin, Germany, reflecting the coordinated nature of the Maldives' diplomatic efforts within Europe.
