Maldives at UN Demands Global Action to Stop Israeli Aggression

Politics ·
The Maldives has issued a forceful call for international solidarity to counter Israel's actions in the Middle East, urging decisive global measures to protect human rights and preserve peace. At the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, the Maldives' Permanent Representative, Ambassador Dr. Salma Rasheed, delivered a statement condemning Israel's prolonged military campaigns and territorial occupation. She highlighted that these actions are destabilizing the entire region. Ambassador Salma grounded her appeal in the principles of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action. She emphasized that "all human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent, and interrelated," arguing that violations in one part of the world undermine peace and dignity globally. Her statement specifically denounced Israel's repeated attacks on Palestinian territories and its military incursions into Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. The ambassador stated these operations continue to fuel regional instability. Reiterating the Maldives' longstanding diplomatic position, Ambassador Salma called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions. She urged collective work to halt the aggression and strive for a just and lasting peace in the region.
