Politics ·
Finance Minister Hassan Zareer today presented a MVR 59.7 billion budget to the People’s Majlis, which includes funding to launch a national project for building an inclusive society. The minister stated that maintaining social development and a religiously and morally sound system is the area where the government gives the greatest importance. He said providing equal opportunities for every citizen is a key goal, and that the project aims to strengthen vulnerable populations by ensuring that persons with disabilities face no difficulties and have access to essential services. Specific allocations will focus on making roads, schools, and health centers inclusive and accessible. Consistent with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s promise, job opportunities for persons with disabilities will be created through the government and state-owned companies. The minister said this will enable social empowerment and economic self-sufficiency. Additionally, a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) budget will be prepared next year to reinforce equality and monitor related expenditures.
