Maldives Coach Urban Voices Dissatisfaction with Refereeing After Loss to Pakistan in SAFF Championship

Sports ·
National team coach Ishtawan Urban has expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing decisions in the SAFF Championship match where Maldives lost to Pakistan 3-0. Speaking to journalists after the match, Urban highlighted that many mistakes were made by the referees and raised questions about the tournament's failure to use the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. Urban noted that when Pakistan took an early lead through a penalty, the motivation of the Maldivian players dropped, and coming from behind at this level is difficult. He also pointed out differences between the current team and previous squads, noting that many national team players previously had experience in AFC club competitions, but the Maldivian league has remained inactive for many days recently. This is Urban's fourth time leading the national team in the SAFF Championship. Maldives will face India in a must-win final group stage match on the 11th of this month.
