Maldives Correctional Service Launches Basic Training for 33 New Prison Officers

The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has launched the third intake of its Certificate I in Basic Correctional Officers course, marking a critical step in the professional development of the nation's prison staff. Officially inaugurated by Chief Prison Officer Ahmed Luqman, Director of the Institute for Correctional Studies, the programme has commenced at Maafushi Prison with 33 new recruits. The training is designed to instill the fundamental responsibilities and duties essential for the management of correctional facilities, ensuring officers are equipped with the practical skills required for their roles. This certification serves as the mandatory foundation for all newly recruited officers entering the MCS. By standardizing the entry-level training, the service aims to improve the quality of inmate supervision and the overall safety and security of the prison environment. The curriculum is structured into four comprehensive modules, meticulously developed to align with Level 1 of the Maldives Qualifications Authority's National Qualifications Framework.
