Maldivian, the national airline, has delivered 3.8 tonnes of essential relief goods to Sri Lanka, spearheading a swift regional response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The aid shipment was coordinated by the Mahaldeeb Foundation in partnership with Meegaath. The Maldives became the first country to mobilize support for its neighbor, with Public Service Media organizing a national telethon titled 'Ceylon aaeku Dhivehin'. The initiative successfully raised USD 834,843.98 through donations from government ministries, private companies, and the Maldivian public. This sum has been formally handed over to the Sri Lankan government. Sri Lankans have expressed deep gratitude for the timely assistance. In a show of solidarity, Sri Lankan migrant workers residing in the Maldives also held a public gathering to acknowledge the aid from their host country. The relief effort highlights the close ties and humanitarian spirit between the two Indian Ocean nations.
