The Maldives has officially delivered humanitarian assistance totaling over $2 million to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah. Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Mas’ood Imad presented $834,843.98 raised through a national telethon alongside 25,000 cases of canned tuna valued at $1,232,166.02 from the Maldivian government. The telethon initiative, organized by Public Service Media in collaboration with 37 Maldivian media outlets, ran from November 29 to December 1. The campaign saw overwhelming participation from citizens, government institutions, private companies, and community organizations across the nation. Funds were collected through dedicated bank accounts and collection boxes strategically placed throughout Malé City. To ensure complete transparency in the fundraising process, independent audit firm Crowe Maldives oversaw the collection and verification of all donations. This oversight mechanism provided donors with confidence that their contributions would reach those affected by the cyclone. PSM confirmed the secure transfer of funds to Sri Lankan authorities, providing assurance to the Maldivian public about the proper utilization of their donations. The organization expressed gratitude to the President, government, and all participating institutions for their support in making the humanitarian initiative successful.
