Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has thanked Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his nation's substantial support following the devastation of Cyclone Ditwah. The assistance, which President Dissanayake described as "deeply reassuring," highlights the strength of the longstanding relationship between the two Indian Ocean neighbours. The Maldives provided over USD 800,000 raised through a public media telethon, supplemented by a direct USD 50,000 contribution from the government. In addition to financial aid, the Maldives has donated 25,000 cases of tuna cans to help address food security in affected communities. Support has extended beyond official state channels. Maldivian businessmen have offered various forms of assistance, while the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka is actively working on the ground to support locals in need. President Dissanayake reiterated that the Government and people of Sri Lanka have gratefully accepted these concerted efforts. The aid package delivers crucial immediate relief while powerfully reinforcing the enduring diplomatic and cultural bonds shared by the two nations.
