The Maldives Digital Summit 2026 concluded at Barceló Nasandhura on April 29, marking a pivotal step in the government's push toward a modernized, tech-driven administration. Organized by the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology in collaboration with Maldives Digital Service, the three-day event served as a strategic forum to accelerate the nation's digital evolution. The summit aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s "Maldives 2.0" vision, which seeks to establish the Maldives as a Digital First Nation. The event drew a wide array of stakeholders, including the President’s Office, various government ministries, the Maldives Innovation and Digital Company (MINDCO), the Department of National Registration (DNR), and the World Bank. Closing the event, Minister of State for Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Dr Mohamed Kinaanath, emphasized that the summit succeeded in bridging the gap between local and international expertise. He noted that the discussions were designed to expedite government digital transformation and foster a unified system across state agencies to ensure a common goal of efficiency. According to Dr Kinaanath, the government is prioritizing the delivery of public services through innovative technological methods. This approach aims to build a data-driven future that eliminates traditional bureaucratic barriers and responds more effectively to the needs of the citizenry. The summit featured high-level insights from global digital leaders, including Iurie Țurcanu, former Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalisation of Moldova; Dr Yoon-seok Ko, Vice President of South Korea's National Information Society Agency; and Jessica McEnvoy, former Deputy Director for the UK Government Digital Service. Key deliberations focused on the overarching framework for the Maldives' digital shift. Central to these discussions were the implementation of a National Data Exchange Platform for secure data sharing, the creation of a Digital Identity System, and the promotion of trusted digital transactions. Furthermore, the summit addressed the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the concrete implementation of the Maldives 2.0 roadmap. The Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology concluded that the exchange of best practices and expertise during the summit has laid a strong foundation for the country's future digital infrastructure.
