The Maldivian government has provided $50,000 in financial assistance to Sri Lanka for recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah. The donation was officially handed over on December 2 by Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Mas'ood Imad and received by Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Vijatha Herath.
The aid initiative was first announced on November 29, when the Maldives pledged both the cash donation and 25,000 cases of canned tuna to support Sri Lanka's recovery from the cyclone's impact. The Maldivian Foreign Ministry described the assistance as a demonstration of solidarity between the two neighboring nations.
According to the ministry, the donation reflects the Maldives' commitment to supporting Sri Lanka's efforts to assist those affected by the natural disaster. The gesture underscores the close bonds shared between both countries and their people, strengthening the longstanding friendship between the island nations.
Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister acknowledged the assistance through social media, expressing gratitude to the Maldivian people for their solidarity. The minister noted that the donation exemplifies the strong friendship that continues to flourish between the two countries, particularly during times of need.
