Maldives Expands Global Reach With Massive Presence at Arabian Travel Market
World ·
The Maldives has dramatically scaled its presence at the 32nd Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, evolving from a modest stall in its early years to hosting one of the exhibition's largest and most prominent pavilions.
As the Middle East's premier international tourism fair, ATM serves as a critical nexus for global travel agents, tour operators, and media. This year, the Maldivian delegation has reached a significant milestone, with 165 representatives from 74 different companies attending the event. The delegation encompasses a diverse cross-section of the industry, including luxury resort operators, safari cruise providers, and guesthouse owners.
Industry stakeholders credit the Maldives' consistent participation at ATM for the steady year-on-year increase in arrivals from Arab markets. Beyond simply increasing visitor numbers, the fair has been instrumental in diversifying the nation's brand image. While the Maldives remains a global icon for luxury, the platform has helped reposition the archipelago as a premier destination for halal tourism, catering to the specific needs of Middle Eastern travelers.
Beyond marketing, the event acts as a strategic lever for infrastructure growth. Stakeholders noted that the fair provides a vital opportunity to negotiate with major international airlines to increase flight frequencies and services to the islands, reducing travel friction for international guests.
One resort operator, a veteran of the fair for 15 years, told PSM News that ATM remains one of the most effective channels for securing high-value tourism from the Middle East. By leveraging these long-term relationships, the Maldivian government aims to use this year's participation to drive further momentum into the national economy.
As the tourism landscape shifts toward technology-driven business models, the Maldives continues to use the Dubai-based fair to integrate modern travel trends with its traditional hospitality strengths, ensuring the destination remains competitive in an evolving global market.
