Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has called for greater solidarity and cooperation among member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address challenges facing the Islamic Ummah, with a particular focus on achieving lasting peace for the Palestinian people. Speaking at the 52nd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Baghdad, Iraq, on Saturday, the Minister stressed that dialogue and inclusivity must be central to global peace efforts. In a social media post, Minister Adam said: 'At the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Baghdad, I stressed that dialogue and solidarity must be central to our pursuit of lasting peace and sustainable development.' She expressed concern over incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque and reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering commitment to an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Minister highlighted the importance of inclusive cooperation, noting that all member states must share in the benefits of cooperation and that any dialogue on peace must include the voices of the vulnerable who are disproportionately affected by war and violence. This year marks 50 years since the Maldives became a member of the OIC. The Foreign Minister assured that the Maldives would always work with the OIC and its member states to advance the interests of the Islamic Ummah. On the sidelines of the session, Minister Adam also held bilateral meetings with several OIC foreign ministers to strengthen ties and discuss areas of mutual interest. She was accompanied by Additional Secretary Shiruzimath Sameer and Assistant Director Mohamed Shujau.
