Maldives Gas Reduces Cylinder Fill Weights Amid Global Price Hikes, Prices Unchanged
Business ·
Maldives Gas, a subsidiary of State Trading Organization (STELCO), has temporarily reduced the amount of gas filled into its cylinders due to rising global gas prices and import difficulties. In a press release, the company stated that the changes are necessary to ensure uninterrupted service to the public. Effective immediately, 10 kg cylinders will now contain 7 kg of gas, 22 kg cylinders will contain 14 kg, and 45 kg cylinders will contain 31 kg. The company assured that the price of gas will not increase; customers will be charged based on the weight of gas filled at the currently fixed rate. This is not the first such reduction—in February of the previous year, Maldives Gas also sold 7 kg cylinders instead of 10 kg due to supply issues, which were later resolved. Complaints about long delays in gas delivery also emerged at that time. To prevent future disruptions, the company is working to increase domestic gas storage capacity, aiming to store enough for three months once the project is completed.
