The Maldivian government has announced an allocation of three billion rufiyaa in next year's state budget for housing projects, Finance Minister Hassan Zareer confirmed while presenting the budget to the People's Majlis. Minister Zareer highlighted that addressing housing difficulties is a key government priority, stating it is the biggest concern among Maldivians since ancient times. He noted that under the direct supervision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, efforts will be intensified to expand housing availability across various regions of the country to permanently resolve this issue. Of the total housing allocation, 750 million rufiyaa has been set aside as equity funds for a special loan scheme, aimed at assisting citizens who own land but lack the financial capacity to build homes. The minister also stated that funds have been allocated to establish basic water and sanitation services on vacant lands across the islands to create livable environments. Ensuring housing for all citizens within the government's five-year term is a key promise of President Muizzu. The state has proposed a total budget of 59 billion rufiyaa for next year, which is 4.5 billion rufiyaa less than this year's amount.
