Maldives Government Emphasizes Ethics and Moral Upbringing in Schools
Politics ·
In a significant policy shift, the Ministry of Education in the Maldives has announced a new focus on ethics and moral upbringing within the secondary education system, set to take effect next academic year. The initiative, led by Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, aims to foster holistic development beyond academics, ensuring students are taught good manners, positive characteristics, and strong moral values. Dr. Shafeeu emphasized that education is a collective societal effort, requiring collaboration between parents and teachers. The policy, guided by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, aligns with the Maldives' tourism-driven economy, emphasizing the importance of good customs and morals. Additionally, a strict policy on mobile phone use in schools will be enforced, prohibiting phones for students under Grade 10 while allowing A-Level students to store devices in lockers during school hours. The Ministry is now working to implement these measures to cultivate well-rounded, ethical citizens.
