The Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has expanded its banking network in the capital with the launch of a new automated teller machine (ATM) in Malé. The facility, situated at the MSL building on Orchid Magu, is now operational and available to the public 24 hours a day.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Rizaa officially inaugurated the machine, emphasizing that the expansion is part of a strategic effort to improve banking accessibility in one of the country's most densely populated urban areas. The move aims to reduce congestion at main branches and provide more flexible options for account holders.
The new ATM is a multi-functional unit, capable of processing both deposits and withdrawals. To cater to the diverse needs of the capital's economy, the machine supports transactions in both Maldivian rufiyaa and United States dollars.
According to MIB, the primary objective of the Orchid Magu location is to enhance convenience for the large workforce employed in surrounding office buildings. By providing a nearby point for essential transactions, the bank expects to streamline daily financial tasks for local professionals.
Beyond serving residents and employees, the bank highlighted the ATM's strategic proximity to the jetty area. This location is expected to be a significant benefit for tourists and visitors arriving in the capital, offering them an immediate and reliable point of service for currency access upon arrival.
