The programme is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s 14-point agenda and aims to teach young people aquaculture skills, including how to establish hatcheries for fish farming. The Muizzu government has prioritised the development of the mariculture sector. The course, conducted by the Maldives Marine Research Institute with assistance from the World Bank-supported Transform Project, aims to build human resources and Maldivian experts for a sustainable marine aquaculture industry. Participants receive training on aquaculture systems, live food preparation, raising clam and seaweed, producing reef fish, shrimp and seafood, as well as practical experience and information on disease prevention and environmentally friendly practices.
