Maldives Marks 61st Independence Day With Grand Ceremonies and Saudi Royal Guest

The Maldives celebrated its 61st Independence Day with a series of high-profile official events at Republic Square, marking the anniversary of the nation's liberation from British rule on July 26, 1965. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed welcomed the guest of honor, His Royal Highness Prince Dr Mansour bin Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, at Izzuddin Jetty. The Prince serves as the Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Minister of State, and a Member of the Cabinet of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The ceremony began with a formal Presidential Salute and a traditional 21-gun salute. Following the opening honors, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) led a ceremonial march-past, joined by contingents from the Maldives National Cadet Corps (MNCC) representing 15 different schools across the country. Adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the proceedings, students from Shaheed Ali School, Rehendhi School, and Iskandhar School delivered special performances. These were complemented by professional displays from the MNDF and the Heyvalla Cultural Troupe, showcasing the nation's rich heritage and disciplined security forces. The festivities concluded with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the Malé skyline, symbolizing national pride and unity. Independence Day remains one of the most significant dates on the Maldivian calendar, serving as a reminder of the country's sovereignty and its journey since 1965.
