Special commemorations for Victory Day were commenced with the congregational Fajr prayers at the Islamic Centre on Tuesday. President Muizzu participated in this Fajr prayer congregation held in one group. In addition, Minister of Defence and National Security Hassan Rashid, Chief of Defence Forces Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, along with military general officers, officers of various ranks, a large number of soldiers, and ordinary citizens participated in this congregation. After the Fajr prayer, there was a special prayer at the Islamic Centre to recall the national martyrs who were martyred in the coup attack that faced the Republic on 3 November 1988. The 3rd day of November is the most tragic yet proudest day recorded in Maldivian history. On 3 November 1988, some traitors among the Maldivians, hiding behind the scenes, joined hands with foreign mercenary terrorist groups to launch a dangerous coup attack on Malé. In order to protect the Maldives National Defence Force and Islam, soldiers and ordinary citizens made noble sacrifices. In this terrifying coup, a total of 19 Maldivians, including 8 soldiers and 11 civilians, who were fighting in defense of the Maldivian nation, were martyred. The Victory Day is commemorated every year in the Republic to revive the memory of the noble victory granted to the Maldivian Ummah by Allah Almighty on that terrifying day, and to keep alive the remembrance of the noble sacrifices made by the national martyrs for the nation.
