Maldives Media Institute Equips 90 Students With Digital and Creative Skills
World ·
The Maldives Media Institute (MMI) has concluded its annual Holiday Camp, providing 90 schoolchildren with practical training in media production and creative arts. Held from July 18 to 23, the program engaged participants aged eight to 17 in a diverse curriculum designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional application.
This year's edition expanded its offerings with the introduction of two specialized digital workshops: the Photo Fun Lab, focusing on photo editing, and the Animator Junior course, which introduced students to the fundamentals of animation. These additions complemented established favorites, such as the embroidery and clothing design workshop, ensuring a balance between modern digital literacy and traditional craftsmanship.
Beyond digital arts, the camp provided comprehensive training in journalism, smartphone filmmaking, radio and television presenting, public speaking, and singing. The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of the media's societal role while promoting the responsible use of communication tools among the youth.
During the closing certificate ceremony, PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb emphasized the importance of practical experience. He noted that the institute carefully curates its workshops to ensure maximum benefit, stating that knowledge only becomes truly valuable when it is put into practice.
Participants expressed that the camp offered a vital opportunity to explore various professional fields and develop new competencies in a supportive environment. The Maldives Media Institute reported strong continued support from parents, highlighting the program's success in inspiring the next generation of Maldivian storytellers.
Operating under Public Service Media (PSM), MMI intends to further its efforts to encourage young people to pursue careers in media presentation and related creative industries through ongoing specialized training and outreach.
