Maldives Met Office Forecasts Improved Weather and Air Quality for New Year

Environment ·
The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has announced that air pollution and weather conditions across all regions of the Maldives are expected to improve as the new year begins. In a weather forecast update provided to Sun on Monday, the Met Office detailed that central atolls will experience scattered rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with conditions improving from Thursday onwards. Southern atolls are forecasted to see rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by scattered rain on Thursday and Friday, with weather improvements starting Saturday. Seas are expected to remain mild. Although air pollution persists in northern and central atolls, it has improved compared to earlier levels and is expected to continue improving from January 1st. The Maldives has faced haze-related air quality issues throughout December, with visibility reduced and air quality worsening. Haze, unlike mist or fog, is caused by fine particles in the air, leading to pollution and reduced visibility.
