Maldives Ministry Highlights Potential Uses of Chinese eVTOL Aircraft

Technology ·
The Ministry of Transport stated today that the eVTOL aircraft launched in Hulhumale yesterday by Coolfly, a well-known Chinese company, is an aircraft that can serve important purposes in various islands of the country. The ministry said that such electric drones are vehicles that can be used to provide basic services to islands. The ministry has highlighted five services that can be provided using such aircraft: transporting medical samples from one island to laboratories at other health facilities on different islands; carrying medicines, vaccines and other important items needed for treatment that need to be transported quickly; carrying first aid kits and other supplies during emergencies and disasters; modifying the design of aircraft as appropriate to transport people for health purposes; and monitoring the environment and infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Transport, while this technology may not replace ferries and domestic flights currently used in travel, it is something that will facilitate these services. The ministry also said that introducing such aircraft to the country and using them for cargo transport will open up economic opportunities. It was also said that new industries will thrive and job opportunities will be created for skilled individuals. One of the employment opportunities that will arise from introducing and starting to use drones that carry people and cargo, according to the Ministry of Transport, is providing maintenance, engineering and technical support for aircraft. Another is jobs for pilots and technicians. Selling batteries required for these aircraft and charging services will also be an opportunity. The ministry highlighted supplying equipment for medical emergencies, air space management, and producing software needed for aviation as potential opportunities. According to the Ministry of Transport, today's event to demonstrate how the eVTOL aircraft flies was a joint effort between the ministry and the Chinese Embassy. The aim was to highlight the opportunities in this field to relevant authorities and businesses. The activity of launching the eVTOL 'managed drone' began yesterday in the Channel area of Hulhumale 1. This activity will continue today as well. The aircraft demonstrated in this activity is an eVTOL model called 'Dream STi' of the Coolfly company, which is a single-seat drone. eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) is a modern aircraft designed to be powered by electricity, rising straight up and landing like a helicopter. This is an eco-friendly and quiet technology.
