Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, President of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Parliamentary Representative for Dh. Meedhoo constituency, has called for the Maldives to explore new markets and expand its fish products to develop the nation's fisheries sector. Speaking on the occasion of the 45th Fishermen’s Day, Siyam emphasized that fishing is a vital livelihood for many Maldivian families and urged authorities to address the challenges faced by fishermen, particularly the difficulties in selling their catch and obtaining fair prices. He highlighted the pressing issues yellowfin tuna fishermen encounter and stressed the need for timely payments and market access. Siyam also called for collaborative efforts to make Maldivian fish products the most valuable in the global market, urging stakeholders to innovate and expand product offerings. He concluded by congratulating the country’s hardworking fishermen and fisheries sector stakeholders.
