Maldives National University Launches Wellness Helpline to Mark 53rd Anniversary

World ·
The Maldives National University (MNU) celebrated its 53rd anniversary by unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the mental and physical wellbeing of its academic community. Central to the celebrations was the launch of 'MNU With You,' a dedicated helpline (1558) designed to provide immediate assistance and guidance to students and staff facing personal or professional difficulties. Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam described the service as a vital resource, ensuring that the university community feels supported during times of crisis. To mark the milestone, the university organized a series of sporting events at the Henveiru and Galolhu grounds. Dr. Shehenaz emphasized that these activities serve a dual purpose: promoting physical health and strengthening the bonds of unity and friendship between students and faculty. Beyond immediate wellness services, MNU is investing in long-term infrastructure to improve the quality of life for its employees. The Vice Chancellor highlighted the government's allocation of a 20,000-square-foot plot specifically for staff housing, a move intended to provide greater social security and residential stability for university personnel. Student welfare is also receiving a significant boost through facility upgrades. The university has commenced the installation of air conditioning units across all student accommodation blocks, aiming to create a more comfortable and healthy living environment conducive to academic success. The anniversary festivities concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting and photography activities, reflecting a blend of institutional growth and community spirit. These initiatives signal a strategic shift for MNU, moving beyond academic excellence to prioritize a holistic environment where both staff and students can thrive effectively.
