In a historic achievement, the Maldives National University (MNU) has been included for the first time in the internationally recognized QS Asia University Rankings 2027. According to the ranking, MNU is placed in the band between 1101 and 1200 across the Asian region, and is also ranked among the top 400 universities in South Asia. Among the country's universities, MNU has secured the first position in this ranking. MNU stated that being included in the QS Asia University Rankings provides an important opportunity to evaluate the university's level and performance against international standards and indicators, and will help identify the university's best areas and discover opportunities to further improve educational standards. Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehnaaz Adam expressed gratitude for the efforts of all university staff, students, and well-wishers, noting that this honor is not just an advancement for the university but also a notable achievement for the country's higher education sector. The QS Asia University Rankings evaluate universities based on multiple criteria, including the quantity and quality of research, faculty-to-student ratio, international expansion of education, and international support for research. This achievement is seen as strong evidence that the Maldivian education system is gaining further recognition internationally.
