Maldives National University Partners With Sri Lanka’s CINEC Campus to Boost Maritime Education

The Maldives National University (MNU) has entered into a strategic partnership with Sri Lanka’s CINEC Campus to enhance academic cooperation, scientific information exchange, and joint research initiatives. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalized during a ceremony at the MNU campus on Monday. The agreement was signed by MNU Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam and Dr. Sujeewa Polgampala, representing the CINEC Campus. Central to the partnership is a shared commitment to strengthening the education systems of both nations. The two institutions plan to collaborate closely on the development and improvement of academic curricula, ensuring that educational standards remain competitive and aligned with regional needs. Captain Mohamed Zaid, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, emphasized that the collaboration is particularly timely given that both institutions specialize in maritime education. He noted that this agreement marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time MNU has established a formal partnership of this nature with a Sri Lankan institution. CINEC Campus brings over 36 years of experience in maritime studies to the partnership. MNU views this foundation of expertise as a critical asset that will provide students and faculty with enhanced learning opportunities and specialized knowledge. Beyond the academic benefits, the MoU is expected to foster deeper diplomatic and institutional ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, leveraging their shared geography and economic reliance on the Indian Ocean's maritime corridors.
